Declaring the Major
Students interested in majoring in the Department of Art and Archaeology must choose one of three programs:
Program 1 – History of Art (a traditional concentration in art history that demands broad exposure to the visual arts produced in different time periods and cultures)
Program 2 – History of Art and Visual Arts (a concentration combining art history with studio art that culminates in a senior thesis exhibition)
Program 3 – Art and Culture of the Classical World (an interdisciplinary major combining studies in classics, classical languages, and classical art and archeology)
Each program has its own specific course requirements for admission. Students must also submit the Department of Art and Archaeology Declaration of Major Form in the spring of the sophomore year.
