PEI’s interdisciplinary
research program is currently focused chiefly in the sciences,
with particular strengths in global change, biogeochemical cycles,
molecular geochemistry, biodiversity and conservation, and environmental
science and policy. It is organized principally through its four
centers: the Carbon Mitigation Initiative, funded by BP and the
Ford Motor Company; the Princeton Climate Center, a part of the
joint Princeton/GFDL Cooperative Institute for Climate Science
(CICS) and supported by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
(NOAA); the Center for Environmental BioInorganic Chemistry, funded
by the National Science Foundation (NSF); and the Center for Biocomplexity,
also funded by NSF. In addition, individual faculty members conduct
their own environmental research.
PEI offers postdoctoral research positions and
fellowships to recent Ph.D.’s in the sciences and engineering.
Many of these positions are affiliated with PEI’s research
centers, focusing on aspects of global climate change. The PEI
Fellows meet on a regular basis to present and discuss their research
and to encourage cross-disciplinary collaborations. Please visit
the research unit sites for information on possible vacancies.
The Princeton Environmental Institute (PEI)
has established several outreach programs and activities to provide
information and training in the environmental sciences and to
disseminate the results of our interdisciplinary research programs
to the Princeton University community, area teachers, students,
and the public. You can find further information on PEI’s
outreach program here.
