The mission of the Payroll /Accounts Payable/Tax Department is to:
Payroll
- Produce timely and accurate payrolls
- Comply with federal, state and local regulations
- Uphold University policies
- Minimize risk through strong internal controls
- Reduce cost through the efficient use of resources and technology
Accounts Payable & Travel Accounting
- Payment of expenses incurred by University employees, faculty and staff to conduct University business.
- Maintain records of payment transactions for internal and external auditors
- Process payments to non-resident aliens
Tax Department
- Manage federal and state tax compliance for the University and related entities
- Resolve tax issues related to financial operations
- Advise on tax issues related to the following:
- investments
- planned giving
- debt-financing
- payroll
- tax treaty transactions
- real estate
- income tax withholding and reporting
- sales and use tax transactions
- scholarship and fellowship payments
- business expense reimbursements
- exempt organizations
- Develop and monitor policies, procedures and processes that comply with federal and state tax regulations
- Direct communications with tax authorities and represent the University in tax audits
