This information is especially useful for F-1/J-1 visa holders whose visa stamps have expired in their passports.

Especially useful for the renewal of non-US citizens' passports.

F-1 students with employment and J-1 visa holders are eligible for social security cards. Representatives from the Social Security Administration visit the campus of Princeton University in the fall semester. If international students and scholars miss this visit, they need to go to the Social Security Office in Trenton directly. To apply for a social security number, an F-1 or J-1 visa holder must fill out an application and bring their passport, I-94 card, and I-20 or DS-2019. F-1 students must also bring a letter detailing their employment (contact OVS for more information). F-2 dependents are not eligible for social security numbers. J-2 dependents are eligible for a social security number with work permission.

F-1 and J-1 visa holders are eligible to apply for a New Jersey driver's license. F-2 and J-2 dependents are also eligible for a license. See the Social Security page for further information.
