CICS Executive Committee

An Executive Committee, consisting of a subset of the CICS Fellows, advises the Director and Associate Director on the development of basic scientific themes for projects as well as the preparation of proposals and allocation of resources.  This committee consists of the Director, Associate Director, faculty members from the Atmospheric and Oceanic Science (AOS) Program, and the Director and faculty members from the Princeton Climate Center (PCC).

The present members of the Executive Committee are:

Isaac Held, GFDL Senior Research Scientist, Princeton University Lecturer with rank of Professor in Geosciences. Research interests include atmospheric and oceanic fluid dynamics/geophysical turbulence, climate dynamics and global warming.

Anand Gnanadesikan, GFDL Research Oceanographer, Princeton University Lecturer in Geosciences. Research interests are in the vertical circulation of the ocean and the connections between physical circulation, the biosphere, and large-scale ocean chemistry.

Denise Mauzerall, Associate Professor of Environmental Engineering and International Affairs, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.  Research interests are in the linkages between air pollution and health, energy, and climate change

Michael Oppenheimer, Albert G. Milbank Professor in Geosciences and International

Affairs, Woodrow Wilson School. An atmospheric chemist who conducts research on the impacts of climate change and also the nitrogen cycle.

Stephen W. Pacala, Frederick D. Petrie Professor in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology,

Director of Princeton Environmental Institute. A biogeochemist who does research on the terrestrial carbon cycle and is co-Director of the Carbon Mitigation Initiative at Princeton University.

V. Ramaswamy, GFDL Director and Senior Research Scientist, Princeton University Lecturer with rank of Professor in Geosciences.  Research interests focuses on the investigation of the climatic effects due to radiatively active gases, aerosols and clouds in the atmosphere

Jorge L. Sarmiento, George J. Magee Professor of Geoscience and Geological Engineering, Director of CICS and the AOS Program.  A biogeochemist who conducts research on the ocean carbon cycle and biological response to climate change.

Geoffrey K. Vallis, Senior Research Geoscientist, Lecturer with Rank of Professor, Associate Director of CICS.  Research interests varies between basic research in geophysical fluid dynamics and more applied modeling of various aspects of the ocean, atmosphere, or climate.
