We will examine in particular the symbiotic exchange between news and the novel, the social and ethical roles sometimes ascribed to the journalist, the relevance of Western canons of reportage to non-Western texts. Readings will be from both literary and theoretical works. Though our primary focus will be upon print journalism within the context of literature, we will also investigate literature's relationship to radio and television.
