SECTION A10: PEST MANAGEMENT

Introduction (top)

The University, through the Departments of Building Services and Dining Services, contracts with a pest management firm to provide routine pest control services. Most administrative and academic buildings receive monthly or more frequent service to reduce or eliminate insect and rodent activity through inspection, monitoring, and abatement measures. When other pest problems arise, such as with pest birds or with wood-destroying insects, such as termites, which cause damage to buildings or create unsanitary conditions, other firms may be contracted through the Department of Grounds and Building Maintenance to address the specific pest situation. When an emergency animal control situation occurs, the Department of Public Safety should be contacted. They will notify the appropriate personnel to address the problem.

Scope and Application (top)

Pest management is intended to address any conditions created by the presence of insects, rodents, and other animals that pose a potential hazard of injury, illness, or property damage.

Program Description (top)

When a pest problem is recognized, routine pest management services [can be] are obtained by contacting Facilities Customer Service at 258-8000 or Building Services at 258-3490. Notify the Department of Public Safety by calling 911 when an emergency animal control situation occurs, such as with a suspected rabid animal being sighted or a bat loose in a building (See fact sheet on bats and rabies).
