Roof Safety Policy

The use of roofs on University buildings is prohibited for social and personal purposes. The policy does not prohibit the use of roof areas for research, teaching, or maintenance purposes provided adequate safeguards are taken. Persons wishing to arrange for the roof areas for teaching and research purposes are asked to make contact with the Facilities Department and with Environmental Health and Safety. When satisfactory arrangements are made with these two offices, permission for the requested use will be granted by Environmental Health and Safety.

Violations will be reported as follows: For undergraduate students, to the Dean of Undergraduate Students; for graduate students, to the Dean of the Graduate School; and for all other personnel, to the Chair or Head of the appropriate department or office.

Adopted March 1976 by the Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (now ESRM)
