| AISSATA SIDIKOU-MORTON (PhD, Penn State U.) is an Assistant Professor of French, Francophone, Comparative and African Literatures. Her doctoral dissertation is “Recreating Words, Reshaping Worlds: The Verbal Art of Women From Mali, Niger, and Senegal.” In 2001 she has published her first book, a revised version of her dissertation with the same title. She specializes in Oral literature by women as well as Francophone Literatures from Africa and the Caribbean. She has published articles on the Verbal Art of women from West Africa. Aissata Sidikou-Morton was the recipient for the National Endowment for the Humanities for a collaborative research grant (2001-2003). She serves on the African Studies Program Committee and also teaches in the Comparative Literature Department as well as the African Studies Program. She serves on the Board of Directors of United with Africa. Aissata Sidikou-Morton is currently working on her next book, The Epic of Fatimata bi Daani, which is soon to appear as part of the Epic Series by Indiana University Press. She is also editing the papers delivered at the May 2003 Conference on Women’s Songs from West Africa and an Anthology of the songs collected by the participants to the conference. |
