L'Atelier:
the French Theater Workshop of Princeton
University
L'Atelier, the French theater workshop of Princeton University,
was created on the Princeton campus in the fall of 2001. Today,
L'Atelier attracts students of all levels of French language
skills, some who are seasoned actors and many who have not acted
before. For those students who already possess a high level
of fluency, acting in French offers a new challenge of the dramatic
discipline. For veteran actors, the experience of acting in
a foreign language requires careful attention to text.
In the fall semester, the public is invited to attend a rehearsal,
to see the work in progress. In the spring semester, the public
is invited to attend the final product: Princeton students performing
in a series of vignettes from works by French playwrights such
as Claudel, Corneille, Feydeau, Marivaux, Molière and
Racine.
