HAVING A SUMMER COURSE APPROVED AFTER DEAN’S DATE

In exceptional circumstances approved by your Dean or Director of Studies, you can attempt to have a summer course approved for Princeton credit after you have left campus, but you must understand that many faculty members are away for the summer and are unavailable to review course materials.

If you want to try, send a completed summer course form to the departmental representative in the department that teaches a similar course. For instance, if you want to take a history course, sent the form to "Departmental Representative, History Department." You must also send the following information from the summer course catalogue:

  • the name and description of the course
  • the number of class hours per week (in print from the catalogue or in a printout from the web).
  • the beginning and ending day of the session (in print from the catalogue or in a printout from the web).

Ask the departmental representative to act on your application and, if he or she approves the course, to forward your form with the attachments to the Dean or Director of Studies at your residential college.

Remember: NO GUARANTEES. Your course may not be approved. Please read the back of the course approval form CAREFULLY to make sure that the course you have selected meets Princeton's requirements.
