Medieval Studies at Princeton University

undergraduate certification

Requirements

THE PROGRAM

The Program in Medieval Studies offers you the opportunity to pursue concentrated interdisciplinary study of the European Middle Ages and to earn a certificate in medieval studies along with whatever Major you may have chosen or are about to choose. You have already take the first (or second or third) step by enrolling in a medieval course and may want to consult the entry for the Program in the Undergraduate Announcement and see the Director of the Program as you plan your courses for the next semester.

ELIGIBILITY

Anyone from current freshman to juniors are invited to join. The basic requirements are spelled out in the Undergraduate Announcement, on page 270. There is one prerequisite, Medieval Studies 227 (The World of the Middle Ages), offered in the Fall, but those who have already taken a number of medieval courses may talk to the Director about a waiver of this requirement.

ENTERING THE PROGRAM

There is no official form on which to declare this, the way you declare your major. But you need to see the Director of the Program to discuss your plans and to register, if he approves. There is also the option of taking a major in Medieval Studies as an independent concentrator. This will require additional administrative approval.
