Essay Questions for New Adviser Applicants

Please note: These questions are provided here so you can begin crafting your answers.  You must ultimately enter your answers into the online application form.

 

Essay answers need not be more than a paragraph or two in length. Please address all five questions in your essay.

 

1.        What are the challenges most commonly faced by first-year students at Princeton?  As an adviser, how would you assist first-year advisees with these challenges?

2.         What experiences or personal perspectives will help you work effectively with individual advisees to build a welcoming community for students of diverse backgrounds and interests?

3.          What do you believe will be most challenging for you about serving as an RCA?

4.           As an RCA, you will likely encounter students behaving in ways that disturb other students and/or violate University policy.  Please describe the experience and personal qualities you possess that will help you to set appropriate limits with advisees when necessary.

5.            Please indicate whether you have been subject to any disciplinary action above a dean’s warning while at the University.  If so, please describe the circumstances that led to the disciplinary action.  If you have received an academic warning or have been placed on academic probation, please indicate that as well.
