2004 Tax Information
Federal Taxes for Undergraduate Students - Non Resident Aliens
Taxes just got easier! Princeton has licensed software to help you prepare your federal income tax returns. CINTAX is a web-based system that asks you questions to determine your tax situation, collects all of your tax information and then produces a tax return that you print, sign and mail to the IRS. CINTAX works in conjunction with GLACIER, used by the University’s Payroll Office to determine residency status and tax treaty status. The information stored in GLACIER is integrated with the new information you enter in CINTAX to complete your Federal tax forms. Beginning March 2005, you will receive an email with a password allowing you to access CINTAX.
CINTAX
CINTAX offers the most accurate and simple way to complete your tax return if you are a non-resident alien student or employee.
If you choose to file your Federal tax form(s) using CINTAX, please note the following:
1. Please make sure you read all instructions carefully. The CINTAX software answers almost any question you could have as you go along.
2. You cannot use CINTAX on an Apple or Macintosh computer. You must use a PC equipped with Internet Explorer.
3. If you used GLACIER (in the Payroll Office) to sign up for a tax treaty or determine your residency status, you will be sent an email containing information for login to the CINTAX system. Information entered into GLACIER will automatically appear as you begin your CINTAX tax return.
4. If you did not use GLACIER to sign up for a tax treaty or determine residency status, you will be emailed login information from the Office of General Counsel. You can log in to CINTAX and the software will ask you questions to determine your residency, tax treaty eligibility, etc. If you have not received login information by March 11, 2005, please call the Office of General Counsel to request a password.
5. CALL CINTAX with any questions or problems you encounter as you complete the tax return . If you have any questions about the software, what a particular question means, or whether you can deduct a particular expense, call CINTAX. They have 24-hour help available and can respond to your needs immediately.
6. CINTAX is not an electronic filing system – it does not submit your tax return for you. YOU MUST PRINT, SIGN AND MAIL THE RETURN YOURSELF.
7. You can save your information in CINTAX and re-use your user name and password, in case you find you need additional paperwork or have other issues.
8. Keep copies of all documents you prepare and submit.
You can still complete your tax return yourself, on paper, following the instruction forms we have provided in previous years. Please click here to go to last year's sample forms and instructions.
