phishing scam e-mail messages which ask for passwords and other private
personal identification information.
Google search tips presented by Nancy Pressman Levy of the University's
Donald E. Stokes Library give examples of handy and helpful shortcuts for quick answers on subjects as varied as local movies and currency conversions.
Technology updates discuss new and improved OIT services: an increase to
1GB for all faculty, staff, and student e-mail quota; the WebEx desktop
conferencing service; and the MyFax service replacement for the campus fax
gateway.
The
final installment on best practices for improved security of departmental servers
discusses hardware redundancy, use of test servers, patching (and patching
again!, making backups, and following the concept of "least privilege" for
users, to safeguard systems.
The
OIT Training spring schedule includes a series of classes for those
migrating to Vista/Office 2007. The classes are being offered monthly to allow
coordination with migration dates. The OIT Training group will also schedule
on-site training for departments; just send a note to training@princeton.edu. A
wide variety of other subjects is also offered, ranging from a basic
Introduction to Computers to details of using PhotoShop and InDesign.
