Mission
PBC is all about kids. We care about kids. We believe in kids.
We offer young people opportunities to challenge themselves, to define themselves, to set goals and strive courageously to reach those goals.
We bring young people together in settings that require communication, cooperation and an ability to resolve conflicts peacefully in order to succeed. We provide structure, support and guidance to help develop these critical life skills.
Our primary focus is serving youth living in the urban communities of New Jersey and neighboring states. These young people face enormous pressures, and are often surrounded by crime, poverty and a culture of despair. We counter those pressures with a message of hope and possibility.
We work in deep collaboration with community-based schools and agencies who work day-in and day-out with the young people we serve. Our mission is to support their missions, and we design our programs in partnership with teachers and youth workers.
We employ a wide range of tools to engage young people in their own growth and development – from rock climbing and rappelling, to bicycling along a historic section of the Underground Railroad, to performing community service in their own neighborhoods.
Whatever the activity or the location, our staff is always focused on that which is most important – helping unlock and unleash the potential within each young person entrusted to our care to grow into a strong, capable and caring adult. In that way, we are making our contribution to healthier communities and a better world, one life at a time.
Our formal mission statement is…
The Princeton-Blairstown Center, through its adventure based and experiential education programs, promotes positive change in the lives of underserved youth, particularly urban youth, in partnership with their families, Princeton University and community organizations.
