Princeton Environmental Institute (PEI) encourages students with an interest in environmental studies/issues to pursue internships that will contribute to their overall knowledge and understanding of the scientific, technical, and/or human dimensions of addressing environmental problems. Summer internships present students with an opportunity to make a real contribution to the resolution or exploration of environmental problems on a local, national or international scale.

Students are encouraged to identify opportunities with organizations whose focus is consistent with their own interests and/or field of academic study.  Such experiences may influence the focus of their junior or senior independent work or help define future study or career choice.  Internships include postings with NGO's, governmental agencies, environmental research and advocacy organizations, and faculty-led research initiatives.

Throughout the academic year, PEI hosts information sessions and participates in campus forums that offer insights into the process of identifying a suitable opportunity. See Summer Internship Opportunities.

Public Service Internships

PEI provides support for public service internships with an environmental focus. Princeton undergraduates in good standing who wish to apply for funding for unpaid public service internships with an environmental focus should complete the 2009 Internship Proposal Application. A second round of funding will be coordinated contingent on the availability of funds through March 27, 2009 (final deadline).

Internship Funding

PEI provides funding to students who obtain unpaid internships with environmental organizations or other environmentally-focused enterprises that do not otherwise qualify under the strict definition of Public Service Internships. A second round of funding will be coordinated contingent on the availability of funds through March 27, 2009 (final deadline). Applications received after the deadline will be considered pending the availability of funds.

All students applying for internship funding are expected to seek internships that meet the educational criteria outlined by the Office for the Vice President for Campus Life’s Summer Public Internship Policy and Process for both Domestic and International Opportunities.

Fellowships

PEI works with sponsoring programs and departments throughout campus to identify fellowship opportunities that have an environmental focus. Students are encouraged to visit each sponsor’s website and to submit applications as interested. See current Fellowship Opportunities.
