Crime Prevention Tips and Things to Think About:

  • Know the Public Safety EMERGENCY number - 911
  • Did you lock your car this morning?
  • Do you keep your purse under your desk or in an unlocked drawer?
  • If an offer sounds too good to be true - it usually is.
  • Information on crime prevention seminars is available by calling 8-3137.
  • Protect your computer passwords. See http://www.helpdesk.princeton.edu/docs/password.html Do not leave passwords (or combinations) in desk drawers.
  • Personal computers should be engraved and in many cases, secured. Contact the Crime Prevention Office for details. 8-3137
  • Nearly every theft from a dorm room is through an unlocked door.
  • Always Lock Your Door when the room is unoccupied or when you are sleeping.
  • If you must remain in a building after hours, use the BUDDY SYSTEM when leaving.
  • Call 8-3134 for an escort.
  • Report lost or stolen ID or credit cards immediately.
  • Never leave valuables unattended near the basketball or squash courts at Dillon Gym.
  • Lock Your Locker, even when unattended for only a few minutes.
  • Engrave valuables; VCRs, stereos, cameras, etc. in the home, dorm and office.
  • Always lock doors and ground floor windows.
  • Report suspicious activity immediately.
  • Make sure bikes are locked to an immoveable object with a good lock.
  • Make a copy of your credit cards and drivers license to keep a safe place in case of loss.
  • Warm coats are targets for thieves at the Clubs and Dining halls during winter months.
  • Plan trips to ATM machines during daylight hours.
  • At buy-back time, books are like cash. Do not leave text books unattended.

 

Three Simple Rules for Personal Safety

  • Stay alert and tuned in to your surroundings. Be aware and prepared.
  • Stand tall and walk confidently, do not show fear. Do not look like a victim.
  • Trust your instincts, if you do not feel comfortable in a place or situation, leave.
