Composing-in-the-Moment is the jazz ensemble composed of the distinguished teachers of jazz at Princeton University. This season, they include:
Ralph Bowen, saxophone,made his debut on the New York jazz scene in the mid-1980s as co-leader of OTB-Out of the Blue on four records for Bluenote. He is currently Coordinator of the Jazz Department at Rutgers University, Director of the Jazz Ensemble, and Professor of Saxophone and Music Theory. He teaches saxophone at Princeton University.
Bruce Arnold, guitar, has taught at the Berklee School of Music, Boston, at Dartmouth College, and at The New England Conservatory. He currently teaches at New York University and at Princeton. Mr. Arnold is the author of forty books on music education, and appears on two CDs.
John Arrucci, drums,is a world musician whose work embraces the traditions of Western Classical, Northern Indian, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian, and other styles. He has composed works for the New York Philharmonic, the Manhattan Marimba Quartet, and others. He has taught percussion at Princeton since 1986.
Michael Cochrane, piano,has performed throughout the United States, Europe, Japan, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Canada, and the Caribbean. He holds degrees from Boston University and New York University. Michael Cochrane teaches at New York University, Rutgers, and Princeton.
Brian Glassman, bass,has performed, toured, and recorded with many of the most renowned artists in jazz from Benny Carter and Lionel Hampton, to Paquito D'Rivera. He appears regularly with legendary songstress Margaret Whiting, and with The Ken Peplowski Quartet. Mr. Glassman hods degrees from Rutgers University and the City University of New York, and teaches bass at Princeton.
