Traveling to Princeton

By Car

From the New Jersey Turnpike heading south, take Exit 9 (New Brunswick) and follow signs for Trenton (Route 18 north, then Route 1 south). For first-timers, navigating to Route 1 south from this exit can be difficult. Take the first right after toll booths, up ramp and onto to 18 north. Immediately, shift to lane second from left and, less than half a mile from entry point, exit left (you'll be heading over a Route 1 overpass). Stay in right lane. The exit to Route 1 south is on your right just beyond the overpass. For directions to campus and parking from Route 1, see below.

From Interstate 95 heading north from DC/Philadelphia, cross Scudder Falls Bridge into New Jersey (Interstate 95 becomes Interstate 295 several miles into NJ), and exit at Route 1 north (exit 67). For directions to campus and parking from Route 1, see below.

Another option from 95 north is Route 206 north. Following Route 206 north, travel through Lawrenceville to Princeton Where Route 206 meets route 27, head right onto Nassau Street, the town's main street. (Note that visitor parking is not available near the center of town; we recommend that you approach the campus from Route 1 north.)
If you are coming from southern New Jersey, we recommend that you take 295 north (instead of the NJ Turnpike), exiting at Route 1 north.

From Route 1 (north or south), exit at Alexander Road overpass and follow signs for Princeton. At Faculty Road (traffic light, gas station) turn right and proceed to the traffic circle. Turn into the campus (Elm Drive). At the next traffic circle follow signs for visitor parking.

Note: Instructions for driving to Princeton are available by telephone. For a recorded message, call 609-258-2222 using a touch-tone telephone.

By Train

Trains to Princeton Junction leave New York City's Penn Station and Philadelphia's 30th Street Station regularly. From Princeton Junction, a two-car train (known as the Dinky) makes the five-minute trip to Princeton. The Dinky does not meet every train, so consult a current schedule before making travel plans. Shuttles from the Dinky Station will be provided during ResNet registration hours.

From New York City's Penn Station, take the New Jersey Transit Northeast Corridor line to Princeton Junction and change there for the Dinky Shuttle to Princeton. A round-trip ticket from NYC to Princeton will cost approximately $14.00.

From Philadelphia's 30th Street Station, take SEPTA to Trenton, NJ. Then take New Jersey Transit to Princeton Junction and change there for the Dinky Shuttle to Princeton. Tickets will be about $18 round trip from Philly to Princeton.

By Airplane

Newark International Airport is most convenient to Princeton. Besides renting a car, the two best options for getting to campus are:

Use Air Train (an airport monorail), to connect to New Jersey Transit for train service to Princeton Junction. From Princeton Junction, connect to the two-car train (known as the Dinky) for the five-minute trip to Princeton campus. The Dinky does not meet every train, so consult a current schedule before making travel plans. This alternative costs approximately $12.50 one way and takes approximately one and a half hours depending on the schedule and your timing. Shuttles from the Dinky Station will be provided during ResNet registration hours.

The second option is a shuttle van service, the Princeton Airporter, which runs between the Newark International and Princeton. Contact the Airporter directly to make an advance reservation. These vans arrive at and leave from the Nassau Inn, located in Palmer Square (one block from the University). The Airporter takes at least one and a half hours to get to Princeton (based upon the number of stops) and costs approximately $25 one way.

By Bus

New Jersey's Suburban Transit Corporation provides bus service from the Port Authority Bus Terminal at 8th Avenue and 41st Street in New York City. Buses leave New York and Princeton every half hour during the day for the two-hour trip.

Lodging & Housing Information

On-campus dormitory housing

The dorms reserved for ResNet attendees are in Dod, Little, and Witherspoon Halls. These are among the oldest dorms on campus (Dod and Witherspoon date to the late 19th century, Little to the early 20th century), and rooms may feature hardwood floors, fireplaces (non-functioning), bay windows, and other original features. Though retaining their historic charm, all have undergone complete interior overhauls within the past five years. They are fully wired for Ethernet and all have modern laundry, kitchenette, and lounge facilities in common areas. Guests choosing to stay in dorms will certainly have a comfortable stay and a unique, quintessentially "Princeton" experience. However, guests should be aware that these are college dormitories, not hotels; rooms may be small and sparsely furnished, and even with a fan it can get hot in the summer!

The bathrooms are single-sex and are shared on the hall. Rooms can either be single occupancy or suite-style multiple occupancy. In all cases there will be no more than two people assigned to a room. Rates can be found on the Pre-Registration Information page.

The dormitory option is centrally located to conference meals, the campus center, and the presentation venues, as well as the Princeton downtown area for entertainment and shopping. This campus map provides a view of Dod Hall, Witherspoon Hall and Little Hall in relation to the rest of campus.

Linens including sheets, blankets, towels and pillows will be provided, although washcloths are not.
