The Princeton Documentary Festival was created to call attention to the current explosion of documentary filmmaking in Latin America and Spain. Through public screenings and classroom discussions, the festival brings to its audience exceptional, cutting-edge documentaries that otherwise would not be available.

Private Movies - this year's theme - focuses on the use of home movies or personal materials in the creation of documentary films, exploring the public significance of private records and the ways in which documentaries address notions of "private life" and "home". The films also show how the private obsessions of filmmakers are transformed, through storytelling, into the most arresting of public statements.
