Enrollment Terminated, Degree Candidacy Continued (ETDCC)

ETDCC is a Princeton status conferred by the Graduate School to Ph.D. students who come to the end of their regular period of enrollment and support in their degree program (either four or five years). ETDCC is NOT an immigration status. ETDCC students are not enrolled students and, therefore, can not extend their F-1 immigration status unless they apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT).  Please click here for OPT instructions and forms.

Students in ETDCC status may be eligible for certain Princeton University benefits that help them make the transition from enrolled to unenrolled status. For further information about ETDCC status, please refer to the Graduate School website or contact the Graduate School

Impact of ETDCC on F-1 student status

If you are an F-1 student in ETDCC status and you do not apply for OPT (see above), because your enrollment has terminated, you would need to:

leave the U.S. within 60 days of the end of your I-20, OR

change to another immigration status (B2 tourist, J-1 exchange visitor, H1B temporary worker, etc.) based on your individual situation.
