Motor Vehicle Commission (MVS)

You may use your country's driver license for the first two months of your stay in New Jersey if you have an International Driver License issued by your country or if your country is a member of the United Nations Convention on Road Traffic and your license is translated into English by a consulate or an MVC approved translator. After two months, you must apply for a NJ driver's license. You will need to go to the Motor Vehicle Commission regional office in Trenton, NJ.

If you will be an F-1/J-1 student for less than 1 year, you may use your country's driver license throughout your stay.

For further details about MVC rules and procedures, please consult the MVC website.
