Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)
In order to comply with SEVIS immigration regulations, F-1 and J-1 students will need to familiarize themselves with instructions on this page:
- Required Registration Reporting
SEVIS regulations require that Princeton reports the full-time status of all F-1 and J-1 students each semester. Completion of the online registration page (Academic Year Registration) in SCORE fulfills the requirement of full-time registration at Princeton. SEVIS reporting will be done by students registering in SCORE; the Office of Visa Services (OVS) being notified of each student registration; the OVS reporting it in the SEVIS database. The OVS is required to report within 30 days of the registration date identified by the Registrar:
THEREFORE, ALL F-1 AND J-1 STUDENTS MUST REGISTER USING THE SCORE SYSTEM.
Failure to register will result in you not being reported as a full-time student to Immigration. You will be considered out of status.
This also applies to any student in absentia. Students in absentia are considered to be full-time students by the University, so you must register and we must report your registration in SEVIS.
SEVIS regulations require that you report a change of address (excluding temporary summer addresses) to the USCIS. At Princeton, the process is that students report changes of address in the SCORE system; the OVS is notified of the change of address; the OVS reports it to USCIS through SEVIS database. Students are required to report any change of address using the SCORE system within 10 days. The OVS is required to report the change to SEVIS within 21 days. If you report your change of address through SCORE you do not need to complete and send the AR-11 form. However, students subjects to NSEERS must update their addresses in SCORE AND complete and send the AR-11SR to USCIS.
The address currently listed in SEVIS for an F-1 or J-1 graduate student is the address you either submitted in SCORE or via email (students on OPT/AT). Because you must report your change of address to SEVIS each time you move, you will need to update and maintain the correct address information in SCORE (except for students on post-completion OPT or AT - see instructions below). The OVS cannot accept individual addresses emailed to our office. Immigration requires both:
• Your permanent (non-U.S.) address.
• Residential (where you live - not your department) address in the U.S.
Please make sure that these addresses are current in SCORE. We will report any change of address to SEVIS on your behalf. Reporting a change of address to SEVIS does not result in the issuance of a new I-20/DS-2019.
If you encounter any problems with SCORE, please contact Office of the Registrar.
- Address Reporting for Students Authorized for OPT or AT
SCORE is not available to students on post-completion OPT/AT. Change of address should be reported directly to the Office of Visa Services.
