2007/2008 Optional Practical Training and Visa Options after Practical Training Seminars

Step One:  Optional Practical Training (OPT)

These workshops will be a detailed discussion on OPT for F-1 graduate students. Topics covered will include when to apply, how to apply, required paperwork, SEVIS implications, time frames and what to expect. Any graduate student with an interest in OPT is welcome; however, students close to finishing their programs will perhaps benefit the most.

F-1 students may file for OPT up to 90 days prior to completion and up to 60 days after completion of program/degree requirements. Therefore, F-1 students may apply for OPT after they have completed their program and during their 60 day grace period. However, an OPT start date may not be more than 60 days after the program end date.

**Master's degree candidates finishing at the end of spring semester should be advised that their official program completion date is commencement  - not the end date on the I-20 (June 30).

Several OPT sessions will be held. We will post them here as they are arranged.
