Full-Time Lectureships in the Princeton Writing Program, 2008-09

We invite applications for full-time lectureships in the Princeton Writing Program. Full-time lecturers teach two topic-based Writing Seminars per term to freshmen. Seminar topics span the disciplines; we therefore seek candidates from all fields of study, including the sciences and social sciences. Lecturers also participate in an intensive faculty development program, which includes meetings and workshops on seminar design and writing pedagogy, as well as a six-week Teaching Seminar in the Fall. In addition, experienced lecturers perform service to the Program in a variety of ways (e.g., lead faculty workshops, organize special events, and work on Program assessment) and serve as advocates for excellence in writing and writing instruction across campus, managing Writing-in-the-Disciplines projects designed to enhance the writing experience in specific departments and courses.

Successful candidates will be proficient academic writers, have demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching, and have carefully considered the role of writing in their courses. The Ph.D. is required. Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience teaching topic-based writing courses or writing-intensive courses at the college level, as well as to candidates with Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC), Writing in the Disciplines (WID), and/or Writing Center experience.

The appointment period is one year, renewable for up to five years of total service. The salary for 2008-09 is a minimum of $52,200 (paid over the academic year) plus benefits. The initial period of appointment is September 1, 2008, through June 30, 2009; however, all new faculty must attend an orientation session May 27-29, 2008, and be accessible over the summer to develop their Writing Seminars in consultation with the Writing Program directors. Other meetings throughout the year, including two days of follow-up workshops September 2-3, 2008, and a Program-wide faculty retreat on September 4, 2008, are required.
